FROM THE SECRETARIAT
In view of the intensive preparations for
the forthcoming Meeting of the Signatory
States, we will be very brief this month.
Regular updates on the meeting continue
to be posted on the IOSEA website (the last
one dated 23
July). As of today, our best estimate
of the number of delegates stands at about
75-80 participants from over 30 countries
across the Indian Ocean and South-East Asia.
On
1 August, another batch of meeting papers
was circulated including the draft programme
for the Workshop
on Fisheries-Turtle Interactions and Mitigation
Options on 22 August. The workshop
will use experiences and lessons learned
from Indonesia as a starting point for
a wider regional discussion. Meeting participants
are invited to review the programme and
consider preparing their own interventions
for what is shaping up to be very interesting
and informative workshop. Planning for
a complementary session on coastal development
issues is also well-advanced – the
programme will be circulated shortly.
Towards
the middle of August, watch out for the
IOSEA DVD “Sea Turtles – Our
Ocean Ambassadors” on your local
television station. As mentioned last
month, a French translation has been prepared,
thanks to our collaboration with the NGOs
‘te
mana o te moana’ and Scubazoo.
Arrangements have been made for the Asia
Pacific Broadcast Union to transmit both
the English and French DVDs to the ABU's
125 members in 55 countries. The official
launch of the DVD’s French edition
will happen in the coming weeks …
more on this later.
Hopefully
we'll see you in Bali ... bon voyage!
