“Frequently
Asked Questions” or FAQ are often used as a time-saving
device to direct readers to information that
is commonly sought after. For a small secretariat
with limited capacity to respond to requests
from students, journalists, questionnaire administrators
and others, FAQ are an efficient means of communicating
basic information on the operation of the IOSEA
Marine Turtle MoU.
Recently, as a consequence of filling out a questionnaire
intended for another purpose, the Secretariat has
completely overhauled the IOSEA website’s FAQ page
in order to make it even more informative. More »
FROM THE SECRETARIAT
The big news this month is the launch of the IOSEA
Satellite Tracking Metadatabase, containing information
on over 500 satellite-tracked turtles from about
20 countries of the IOSEA region. Developed over
the past several months, the database promises to
be a useful tool for identifying gaps in coverage
of satellite tracking studies around the Indian
Ocean and South-East Asia.
The creation of the new database coincides with
some other functional and cosmetic enhancements
to the IOSEA website which are being introduced
this month -- with more to follow in August/September.
It is now confirmed that the second meeting of the
Western Indian Ocean - Marine Turtle Task Force
will be held in Reunion, France, on 23 August -
just before the start of the WIOMSA Scientific Symposium.
The gathering will be hosted by Kelonia. Also, a
slot has been reserved during the WIOMSA meeting
for related turtle monitoring training workshop,
on 27 August.
In anticipation of these events, a major effort
has been made to revise the online reports of IOSEA
Signatory States of the WIO sub-region. These will
be available for viewing during the second week
of August.
The past month brought
an exceptional number of interesting turtle-related
news reports from around the region. Catch up on
any headlines you may have missed, below.
