FROM THE SECRETARIAT

Our apologies for the 9-day interruption of web services towards the end of December, due to an unexpected but necessary shutdown of the server hosting the IOSEA site (just when we were on track to shatter all records for website visits that month!). Unrelated to this, some users may experience slower than usual access times to the site until repairs are completed to underwater cables damaged by the recent Asian earthquake.

If you missed last month's profile on Operation Migration (OM) - which explored the possible use of ultralights in sea turtle conservation - you can still find it in the PoM Archive. OM has just completed its sixth successful ultralight-led migration of 18 Whooping cranes from Wisconsin to Florida, a remarkable achievement in wildlife reintroduction. Read about it in the OM Field Journal.

We hope you enjoy January's 'Profile of the Month' from Australia, featuring NAILSMA's Dugong and Marine Turtle project.

As always, we welcome your contributions for new features and profiles - please drop us a line: iosea@un.org.
