The
popular IOSEA educational DVD "Sea Turtles:
Our Ocean Ambassadors" is now available
in French, thanks to a fruitful collaboration
with « Te
mana o te moana », a non-profit
foundation based in French Polynesia.
« Te mana o te moana » generously
prepared the translations and sponsored
the production of the latest version,
which is titled: « Les tortues marines
: ambassadrices des océans ». More »

FROM THE SECRETARIAT
We're now into the fourth quarter of the
year, which can only mean that the "meetings
season" is well and truly under way.
(See the IOSEA Dates
of Interest Calendar for details.)
The Secretariat intends to participate
in a number of meetings that are relevant
to IOSEA. A few of them are taking place
fairly close to home, among them:
-
Securing Sustainable Small-Scale Fisheries
(Bangkok, 13-17 October)
- Research for Stock Enhancement of Sea
Turtles in Southeast Asia (Kuala Lumpur,
15-17 October)
- IOTC Working Party on Ecosystems and
Bycatch (Bangkok, 20-22 October)
The
Coordinator will also be participating
in the Ninth Meeting of the Conference
of the Parties to the Convention on Migratory
Species (Rome, 30 Nov - 5 Dec) in his
capacity as Senior CMS Advisor.
The venue for the Technical Workshop on
Minimizing Sea Turtle Interactions in
Coastal Net Fisheries (20-22 January 2009)
has been changed to Honolulu, Hawaii.
The Secretariat takes this opportunity
to remind IOSEA Focal Points to identify
experts who might be proposed to participate
in this workshop, so that participation
from the Indian Ocean is maximised. Please
review the meeting
prospectus for more details.
Finally, our good intentions to circulate
a draft report of the Fifth Meeting of
the Signatory States in September did
not quite materialise before annual leave
commitments took hold, but it should be
available for review within the next week.
As always, we look forward to receiving
contributions from readers for posting
on the IOSEA website. This includes anecdotal
information related to turtle conservation
that is worth sharing
with colleagues in other countries, especially
if it is unlikely to be published in other
places.
