A first for IOSEA: the Marine Turtle DVD in Zero-G !

Jean-Fran?ois Clervoy, European Space Agency AstronautWhen turning around the Earth several hundreds of times during three space missions dedicated to atmosphere research, equipment transfer to the Space Station Mir, and repair and servicing of the Hubble Space Telescope, I was crying of emotion admiring our planet.

NGO’s of the IOSEA region - this one’s for you

Photo from Watamu Turtle Watch, KenyaThe IOSEA Projects Database has received a major injection of new content with the addition or updating of more than 50 entries from the Western Indian Ocean.

For anyone not already familiar with it, this database is especially intended to showcase the activities of non-governmental organisations working in the Indian Ocean – South-East Asia region. It also includes some entries regarding specialised programmes of government agencies and international initiatives sponsored by multilateral donors. FROM THE SECRETARIAT

The Profile of the Month for October features the new IOSEA Technical Support and Capacity-Building Programme, details of which were communicated to Signatory States over the past few weeks. We hope that Focal Points – particularly those from countries eligible to benefit from this programme – will seize the opportunity to take advantage of the expertise on offer.

In addition to the major effort to update the Projects Database (see article above), we would like to draw attention to updates made to the Flipper Tag series in September. Thanks are extended to everyone who has contributed to this ongoing exercise.

Finally, it is worth mentioning that the United Arab Emirates has added many sites of importance to marine turtles in the Online Reporting Facility. [In the Viewer module, click on the 'Search Site Threats' tab, select 'United Arab Emirates', and click 'List Sites'. .
