The WWF Pakistan has planned to host a wide array of activities to mark the World Environment Day throughout the country.
In order to promote awareness about environmental protection and conservation of nature, WWF Pakistan, Sui Southern Gas Company and City District Government Schools are joining hands to organise a beach cleaning activity at Sandspit. Two out of the seven globally endangered species of Marine Turtle, Green Turtle and Olive Ridley, nest at Sandspit Beach. Hence, the beach has an international significance. The litter thrown by picnickers poses a threat to turtles. Therefore, in order to promote awareness and provide a safe nesting ground for the turtles, WWF-Pakistan is organising this event with the participation of about 500 students from different CDGK schools. Apart from beach cleaning, the students will also be participating in other learn-through-fun activities focusing on environment.
Apart from that, Sindh Environment & Alternative Energy Department and Sindh Environmental Protection Agency are jointly organizing a seminar on “Environmental Challenges in Sindh” at a local hotel to commemorate the World Environment day.
Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah, Secretary Environment and Alternative Energy Department Hussain Ali, Chairman Standing Committee on Environment FPCCI Gulzar Feroz, SEPA Director General Ali Ahmed Lund, Director World Wildlife Fund (WWF), Ghulam Akbar and others will give presentations on the occasion.
