Giant Green Turtle discovered on Jomtien Beach, Thailand 2 Sep 2012

At 7.30 on Friday evening there was some excitement on Jomtien Beach when a Giant Green Turtle was discovered floating dead in the sea in the vicinity of Jomtien Palm Beach Hotel.

The discovery was made by 38 year old deck chair attendant Mr. Surusak who used a fishing line to drag the beast onto the beach and then called for assistance from the Swangboriboon rescue service.

The turtle, weighing 17 kilograms was believed to be between 20 and 30 years old, and judging from its condition was estimated to have been dead for about 2 days. The animal appeared to have sustained some injuries to the head, but whether this was the cause of death is unknown. The turtle was eventually removed from the beach and sent to the Department Of Fisheries for further investigation.
