Malaysia: Third dead turtle found in Terengganu 3 Jan 2014

Another dead turtle was washed ashore at the Mengabang Telipot beach here, the third in just one week.

Universiti Malaysia Terengganu Oceanography and Environment Institute (INOS-UMT) curator Azwarina Mohd Azmi Ramasamy said the carcass of a 0.9 metre-long Green turtle (Chelonia mydas) was found at the Mengabang Telipot beach here at 12.30 am today (January 3rd).

However, unlike the two Green turtle carcasses found at the nearby Tanjung Gelam beach last Saturday (December 28th) which had marks and bruises consistent with injuries sustained by contact with a fishing net, the latest turtle found did not have any injuries to indicate how it could have died.

"The turtle carcass was brought back to our repository for research purposes," Azwarina Mohd Azmi Ramasamy said.
