A total of 81 healthy sea turtle (pawikan) hatchlings were released at the Aboitiz Cleanergy Park in Punta Dumalag Davao City on January 2 and 4.
Sea turtle eggs believed to be of the Olive Ridley species were found around October 2013 and brought to the Aboitiz Cleanergy Park, a protected area in Punta Dumalag, by personnel of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources to ensure a higher survival rate of the hatchlings.
Park caretakers began noticing hatchlings on January 2, and with guidance from biologist Dr. Ruth Gamboa of UP Mindanao and former caretaker Bobby Onin, 23 hatchlings were released hours after they emerged and became active. Some 58 more hatchlings were dug free from their nest and released on January 4.
