Sri Lanka: massive turtle racket exposed 13 Jan 2014

Panadura Walana Police Anti Vice Squad nabbed a massive turtle slaughter racket where the sea animal’s flesh had been supplied to tourist hotels for a long time.

Police Media Spokesman SSP Ajith Rohana said that 2 turtle carcasses and 4 live turtles were also found when the police raided the slaughter house located near the tourist hotels area at Medapitiya in Negombo.

Investigations revealed that the slaughter house had supplied sea turtle flesh to nearby tourist hotels in the area for a long period.

SSP Ajith Rohana said that one person was arrested in connection with the racket and he will be produced before the Court today.

Police is also investigating to arrest the rest of the suspects involved in the turtle slaughter racket.
